My Approach

I'm a warm, direct, and collaborative therapist who believes therapy should be about more than understanding why you feel the way you do. It should help you experience meaningful change.

I work with adult women who look like they have it together on the outside but feel anything but underneath. Many of my clients are high-achievers, perfectionists, doers, and people-pleasers who have spent years understanding their patterns but still feel stuck repeating them.

My approach combines trauma-informed talk therapy, somatic (body-based) therapy, and stress and emotion education. Through understanding the science of trauma, how we actually experience stress, and how to change our patterns, I teach clients practical ways to move stress and emotion, not just manage it.

Clients often report seeking somatic talk therapy because they spend too much time in their heads, are hyperaware of their patterns but feel helpless to change them, or don't get enough from other types of therapy.

If you're interested in the specific modalities and scientific framework I use, I encourage you to reach out for a consultation call to discuss further. In the world of therapy jargon and well-meaning platitudes, I personally think this space is better spent describing what you can expect from our sessions.

We'll start by getting to know each other a bit better and asking broad questions about your history and how you experience life. The first session can be a bit heavy, but I try to be intentional about timing and learning your capacity, checking in as we go along.

During our time together, we'll talk about your mental health, yes, but also the way your brain works, your friends, what lights you up inside, and that awkward story from middle school you play on repeat. These things are all connected and contribute to the really cool person I'm working with.

We'll tend to bounce between unpacking difficult beliefs, learning about stress and trauma, and connecting on a shared love of dessert, if that's you. As your therapist, it's my belief that I need to understand you and your world as best as I can in order to help you as best as I can.

Overall, I get invested in your success and remind myself to check in about topics we've talked about. This is both from the perspective of working toward certain therapy goals we've set and also from the perspective of connecting with another human. You shouldn't have to repeat yourself every session and question if I even remember your spouse's name.

That's the human in Human Kind Counseling. There's a method to the process of somatic talk therapy, but it's never at the expense of connecting with you. If that sounds like what you're looking for, use the Contact button below to reach out for a free 15-minute consultation call.
